Hey everyone! Since we are halfway through the year now, I thought I would reflect on all the things I wanted to get done this year that I still have to complete!
I’m rushing to complete my Mighty Thor cosplay in time to go to see Thor: Love and Thunder for my birthday! It’s going well so far, but it is my first foam project in FOREVER so I am trying to up my game and learn new techniques! I’m proud of it so far, and I mostly just need to prime, paint, and seal most of the pieces now! The only sewing involved in this one is the cape, skirt and underthings (shirt, tights and partial sleeve)!
I decided to go with the comic version since I like it A LOT more than the MCU style she has in the new movie! I did do my helmet based on the movie version though and used SayakatCosplay’s pattern on Etsy! It went together SO wonderfully and saved me a lot of time putting it together!
I also used PropWay’s YouTube video for the hammer; it was super easy to follow! I was a little stuck with how to get such clean bevelled edges and put the detailing on but he made it clear and easy!
Will be uploading an article detailing the process once it’s completed and after I get some good wearing it!

I am preparing to enter the Foundations Revealed Competition for 2023 and still have work to do for my planned costume! I don’t want to give too much away but it is Tudor-inspired and fits the theme of “The Natural World” quite well!
I am wanting to make 6 pieces in total, and I have already started sewing 2 of them, as well as patterning 1 more! There’s the kirtle (patterned), chemise (started), veil (started), the apron and the shoes. If I run out of time, I am okay with not making the shoes, but I feel like everything else is pretty important.
Submissions for the competition aren’t open until the end of November 2022, but I would like to get pictures outside while it is still pleasant here in Canada so I’ve set September 30th, 2022 as my due date for this project! The kirtle will probably need a few mockups, and since I am wanting to hand-sew the majority of this project, I need to leave myself enough time to complete everything and have a few different photoshoots (YIKES).
Halloween is one of my favourite holidays, but I tend to over-think my costume EVERY YEAR! I also seem to start it too late even though I always know when it’s coming! Last year, I had the plans for my costume at least a month in advance, but only began working on it 3 days before I had a party to go to! The same as the year before!
I am trying to avoid that stress again this year, but I can’t seem to decide on a costume now. I would like to do something from this year, like Moon Knight, The Batman movie, or The Rings of Power show coming out in September, but those are massive projects that need more time than I can currently give, so I am a little creatively stumped.
There is also this spiderweb dress that has inspired me ever since I saw the art two years ago, but I will probably just make it as festive clothes, not an actual costume! That way it has more wearability and there's less pressure to make a WHOLE costume versus just two pieces.
It will probably just be a black dress for the base and then white yarn or pretty embroidery thread draped all over in a web pattern. I am also considering getting small beads/gems to add a bit of sparkle to it!
I just need to buy the supplies and decide what kind of dress to make. I’m thinking an A-line because that's what I would wear most but it doesn’t really fit the spider aesthetic well, so I’m not too sure yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I had a whole Victorian, Dicken’s-inspired plaid ensemble planned for this Christmas, but as I don’t feel up to making a hoop skirt or the appropriate corsetry yet, I pushed it to next year. I will also be making a Victorian summer working woman’s outfit and ideally a Victorian fencing ensemble too, so it better justifies making the undergarments then.
I now just have some gifts that I would like to make for loved ones, and some needle-felting/knitting kits I got last holiday season that I didn’t finish before it was seasonally inappropriate! I’m sure I will pick up other projects as the year goes on, so I am leaving plenty of open space for me to squeeze new things in!
I know I would like to winterize my 18th-century wardrobe a bit more with a wool jacket, some wool mitts and maybe even a quilted petticoat? I will wait and see if I have the time and energy for those!
I dream of doing a Holiday-Barbie Dress one day, but I still think it is unrealistic for me to plan that for this year, so we will see how my skills have developed by next year! (2008 was my dream dress as a child and I cherished that doll, so that would probably be my pick unless next year is extremely stunning.)
I have a couple more small things that I have been wanting to make, but they are all low priority and depend on how my Foundations Revealed Competition entry pieces go. If I can get that done with time left over (or just need a break from Tudor sewing), here are a few things I will work on;
